Background

The initial file naming conventions for marine products are excessively inclusive. Current limitations of some systems and tools necessitate increased file naming complexity. Additionally some information is added to assist both human and technology interfaces to query, filter and transform the files without the need to scan the attached metadata. These file naming conventions will be reviewed as systems and automation improve.

A naming template should be used for every product filename, based on the following framework: {Mandatory} | ({Conditional}) | [{Optional}]

 The example for the L3 Bathymetry GeoTIFF product is as follows:

{GAID/SurveyID}{_ProductType}[{_SurveyYear}]{_Resolution}[{_SensorIdentifier}]{_RegionCode}{_MeasurementLabel}{_VersionIdentifier}.{FormatExtension}

Looks like this:

  • in2019_e01_Bathymetry_0p5m_EM710_SH51_Depth_20201214T052921Z.tif
