Validity

Definition

This quality dimension indicates how well the values, and their attributes align to the specification and requirements. Validity is assessed by the level of conformance to the stated specifications and value domains.

Questions to answer for validity:

  1.  Are values recorded consistent with the defined value domains and ranges?

  2. Is there no time difference between the intended reference period, and the actual reference period of the collected data?

  3. Where data already exists, does this dataset:

    1. add value to original survey, or

    2. shows no changes over time

  4. Has the dataset been validated against specification and is there a high level of conformance?

  5. Has the dataset undergone any treatment to improve the level of conformance?
