Acquisition (General)
Â
Acquisition Title is the name or the Survey/Cruise/Voyage or Acquisition known by the data acquirers. For consistency AusSeabed may attach an additional name that will ultimately be displayed on the Marine Data Portal as a Layer Name.
Acquisition Code is a unique identifier again often provided by the data owners or acquirers. CSIRO use a vessel name code, a year and id number to differentiate their acquisitions. e.g in2019_v01 - RV Investigator 2019 Voyage 01. AusSeabed will allocate an additional identifier known as the GAID if data is supplied to Geoscience Australia for storage, processing and publication. This code uses a template based on Year Seq number and a Code to differentiate Survey Acquisitions and Compilations. e.g 20230001S
Abstract, can be entered manually, copy and pasted from another source or by Loading the template and updating specifics. It is recommended that the final sentence in the Abstracted include the following disclaimer - ‘This dataset is not to be used for navigational purposes.’
Lineage, can be entered manually, copy and pasted from another source or by Loading the template and updating specifics. It is recommended that the lineage contain any other metadata details that you hold and do not fit the minimum standard attributes within the Data Register along with the source of the data, any processing techniques and software utilised. Some of the additional fields that could be captured here include:
horizontal-positioning-method
accepted-positional-accuracy (unit(m))
vertical-reduction-method
number of grids
grid sounding density
grid resolution (m)
nb-of-points
number of sensor heads
beamwidth across track (degree)
beamwidth along track (degree)
pulse length (μs)
absorption (dB/km)
number of soundings
accepted-soundings-accuracy (unit(m))
selectable depth range (m)
sensor operating mode
sensor swath (degrees)

Data Types, please select as many relevant data types collected during the Acquisition even if the data is not supplied to AusSeabed.
Reminder that the small red triangle in the top left corner of the field indicates the item is Mandatory to complete a submission (validation of these mandatory rules only occurs when the user is ready to Submit the metadata).
