Marine Data Register Terms

SUBMISSION

A collection of Acquisitions submitted to AusSeabed as a package of data

ACQUISITION

Data Acquisition from one or more Platforms and Sensors, usually covering over a shorter defined period of time and a specific geographical extent. The acquired data is used to generate multiple products and resolutions and can be combined with others to create a compilation

ACQUISITION CODE

This is generally considered the SURVEY ID. An identifier provider from the data acquirer

COMPILATION

A combination of distinct Acquisitions from multiple sources, platforms and sensors that is often covers a considerable time period and geogrpahical extent.

CRS

Coordinate Reference System

Contributing Data Partner

A contributing data partner is an organisation that has agreed to assign custodianship for a data product to GA, as an implemented AusSeabed Data Hub.

Contributing Hub

A Contributing Hub is:

  • A data store that provides data processed to the AusSeabed standard

  • A data Catalogue that stores metadata

  • Connected to the broader AusSeabed Data Hub component infrastructure for seamless delivery to the end user

  • Meaningfully supported from within their own organisation with a forward commitment to continue for at least 12months.

DOI

GEOMETRY

The shape of a feature defined by a type and coordinate pairs. e.g a Point, Line, Polygon

INSTRUMENT

A term to describe different categories

L0

An AusSeabed term to categorise a data level relating to Raw data, derived directly from Sensors

L2

An AusSeabed term to categorise a data level relating to Processed data

L3

An AusSeabed term to categorise a data level relating to generated products often Gridded.

PLATFORM

Platform is the structure or vehicles on which instruments are mounted. (Ground based, Airborne, Satellite, Water based)
